Introduction to Odissi with Bhavna Pani

Dance. Drama. Storytelling. Spirituality. Odissi! Join this workshop for an introduction to the ancient performance form of Odissi. Award-winning performer Bhavna Pani will offer historical knowledge about the evolution of the form and get us up on our feet dancing. Get ready to move!

Bhavna Pani is a Mumbai based accomplished film and theatre actress. She is also an exponent of Indian classical dance since the age of 6, from Pandit Guru Kelucharan Mahapatra and Jhelum Paranjape  for Odissi & Pandit Birju Maharaj and Neelima Azeem for Kathak.  She is also trained professionally in Jazz, Ballet, and Contemporary dance from Terrence Lewis Contemporary Dance Company (TLCDC) , as well as light Hindustani classical vocalist from Sangeet Mahabharati. After starring, as the lead, in a few Bollywood and South Indian Feature films, by filmmakers like Priyadarshan & Prakash Jha, she went on to star in the title role of an international stage musical called “Bharati” for almost a decade (over 1500 shows), successfully performing in over 15 countries all over the world, earning rave reviews and international fanfare. Currently, Bhavna is earning accolades for her stage work with Naseeruddin Shah in two of his (Motley’s) productions – “Aurat” and “The Father”. She also won the META award 2014 for her performance in QTP’s “So Many Socks”, directed by Quasar Padamsee -Thakore.
