Kanika Ambrose to step down as Artistic Producer
It is with proud but heavy hearts that the Board of Directors announces that Kanika Ambrose will end her tenure as Artistic Producer of Paprika Festival in July 2021.
The Board of Directors would like to recognize the outstanding achievements Kanika has accomplished during her time as Artistic Producer. Kanika spearheaded the formation of the Design Lab, a new training program aimed at mentoring emerging sound and lighting designers; formed new programming partnerships and initiatives with organizations across the city; and welcomed and mentored a new generation of Paprika staff. Additionally, Kanika was instrumental in pivoting the 2020 Paprika Festival to an online format - offering extended training programs and online public programming.
“There is no company like Paprika in terms of offering nurturing space for growth of early career artists and administrators. It truly is a place where finding one's own way is encouraged and supported as is learning from and acknowledging mistakes. I have benefitted so much from my time as artistic leader of this company. Yes, I have grown as a leader, mentor, and ambassador but, the highlight for me, will always be the young artists and staff I was privileged to work with.
As I step down from my position, I feel grateful to have had the opportunity to lead the company through this (continuing) period of massive challenge and change. I strongly believe that the Artistic Producer of Paprika Festival is an excellent way for an early career artist/administrator to grow into artistic leadership and be part of shaping our ever-evolving industry,” Kanika says.
After her time with Paprika, Kanika will focus more fully on creating and writing for theatre (plays and opera), while also embarking on motherhood. We wish her and her family the very best and are deeply grateful for all Kanika has given to Paprika in her time co-leading the Festival.
Paprika Festival is now accepting applications to the fill the role of Artistic Producer, the full posting can be found here. Applications will be accepted until March 12, 2021.
