Application FAQs
Can the application be completed in alternate formats?
- Yes absolutely! Our application portal accept applications in written, audio, or video file formats. If you want to discuss another alternative option or need additional support with application submission, please contact Amanda at (amanda@paprikafestival.com). We will try our best to respond to emails within 48 hours.
Can I be a student at the same time as participating in the peogram?
- Yes, however, we encourage you to review the program expectations and consider if the time commitment feels manageable in addition to your schoolwork. We expect that all participating artists understand and agree to engage with the programming fully and leave it to you to determine if that seems possible with other existing commitments.
Can I do this if I’ve done a Paprika program before?
- Yes! We will be reading and considering all applications. In the spirit of transparency, our programming intends to reach artists who haven’t had access to opportunities like this, so we will prioritize artists who haven’t had a chance to participate with Paprika before.
Do I have to be under 30?
- No, you don’t have to be! Paprika is a place for early-stage artists which we recognize does not necessarily correlate with age. We will be considering your previous experience, training and access to opportunities to determine early-stage status.
Am I eligible to apply?
- There are only two eligibility criteria: Applicants must be over the age of 18 and legally able to work within Canada.
Who is Paprika For?
- The ideal Paprika artist is someone who is emerging in their craft, has a little bit of experience under their belt, and is looking for training and support to launch their career in the performing arts. They are self-motivated and excited to make connections and form community with their peers. We love to work with people who have come to theatre in unconventional ways!
Who is reading the applications?
- Applications will be read by Paprika Staff (Amanda Lin and Julia Dickson) and the program facilitator. The facilitator of each program can be found on the program page.
How are you deciding?
- We will consider multiple factors while deciding which artists will be a good fit for the program this year. They are:
- Artistic Merit (Ideas that we are excited by!)
- Impact of the program on you (Who needs the “Yes!” the most, who has clear goals that align with what we can offer)
- Can you fully participate in the experience? (Availability factors)
- Facilitator Fit (Prioritizing applicants whose goals and style align well with what the Facilitator has to offer)
- Access to opportunities (We will be prioritizing folks who haven’t received similar kinds of training elsewhere)
Do you have any tips for my application?
- Try to be as specific as possible about who you are and what you’re working towards!
- Have clear goals—short term (such as, I want to learn how to properly structure a play) and long term (such as, I want to create a space for Indigenous artists to connect and share resources)
- If you’re submitting support material, focus on quality over quantity—send only your best stuff!
- Don’t hesitate to reach out to us if you have questions! It’s best to do this as far in advance of the deadline as possible to ensure we have time to properly respond.
When will I hear back?
- Everyone who applies will hear back by December 8, 2025!
Can I apply to more than 1 program?
- Yes, you can! All applications will be considered but you can only participate in one program at a time.
