A note from Paprika:
Launched in 2017, the Indigenous Arts Program is the newest Paprika program. It was created to support and celebrate young Indigenous artists in a personalized, holistic way, including: connection to an Elder, access to traditional medicines, and mentorship with an Indigenous professional artist and guest artists (at no cost to participants). Participants in the program have the opportunity to create original, performed art of any kind through a flexible process tailored to their interests and abilities. Their work is then fully staged and showcased in the annual Paprika Festival in May. The Indigenous Arts Program continues to evolve with feedback from Indigenous youth, artists, and community.
Thanks to support from Canada Council for the Arts and the Laidlaw Foundation, we’ve been able to further remove barriers by covering the cost of transit, rehearsal space, and more as needed for participants.
